ENGR 493 Special Topics on Microprocessor Applications

The Spring 2019 course with CRN 10220 was the first course to be designated as a “Service Learning Course” in the College of Engineering and Technology. It was about Arduino Programming and its applications. One of the course projects was for the students in this course to collaborate with the ART 132 2D design students taught by Dr. Mary Anna LaFratta to help mentor the clients at the Full Spectrum Farm, who are on the autism spectrum, using Touchboards (programmed in Arduino IDE). The assignments were mini-projects. The final project was of your choice, and you were encouraged to take the service learning experience into the final project’s consideration and application. Feel free to check out the service learning project description and the course syllabus.

Full Spectrum Farm clients visited WCU for the first time on Feb 5, 2019 to learn to use Illustrator to draw and on Feb 15, 2019 to learn to program an Arduino board. The ENGR 493 and ART 132 students really enjoyed working with the Farm clients. After a few more meetings between the clients and the students, the Farm project was finished, and the students in both courses accomplished their own Touchboard projects, too. All the projects were on exhibit on Apr 26, open to the public. Please check out the details of the Spring 2019 projects at this link.
